To learn more about 10 of the remarkable women buried in the local cemetery, the Zonta Club of Victoria, Canada, engaged with Emily Carr Chronicles to organize three tours through the graveyard to celebrate them. Many of the women were successful pioneers as educators, prospectors, photographers, artists, landowners and politicians.
The tour made the club realize that those pioneers brought them closer to a world Zonta envisions, one in which women are on equal footing. They set the groundwork for building a better world for women and girls.
The event was a huge success, with the whole community raving about it and requesting its return.
"I have 10 people lined up for the next one," said one participant.
The event even gleaned the attention of a local radio station.
