Zonta Club of Rotorua shares climate justice message on International Women’s Day
The Zonta Club of Rotorua, New Zealand, shared the Zonta Says NOW to Gender-Equal Climate Action message to their local community on International Women’s Day.
Past District Governor Desirae Kirby spoke about the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women and girls, the Zonta Says NOW program and actions the audience could take to reduce their carbon footprint. She then facilitated a panel of four local women who spoke about the impacts of climate change on their families and their hopes for future action.
The panel included a club member who shared the impacts on her indigenous community and a mother-and-daughter pairing who shared their generational perspectives on climate change. Club President Barbara Hock said that members of the public and Zontians went away with a deeper understanding of the issues and a determination to take some positive actions in their lives. The Rotorua Library kindly provided the venue for the event.
