Zonta Club of Denver participates in a Day at the Capitol on International Women's Day
The Zonta Club of Denver, USA, participated in a Day at the Capitol event sponsored by the Violence Free Colorado and the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault on 7 March with International Women's Day.
More than 130 women from Colorado met with their state legislators at the Capitol to request a one-time $30 million investment to cover a federal Victims Of Crime Act (VOCA) shortfall. The U.S. federal funding for VOCA has steadily decreased since 2018 and will be decreased by 40-50% in the next funding cycle. Federal dollars are used to provide housing assistance, legal advocacy and many other services for sexual and domestic violence survivors. This one-time funding request will help thousands of survivors in Colorado receive the assistance they need despite the federal cuts.
