Zonta Club of Accra honors local women on International Women's Day
In a momentous celebration of International Women's Day and Rose Day, the Zonta Club of Accra, Ghana, bestowed a potted yellow rose upon five Ghanaian women who have significantly impacted their society.
The honorees were:
- Zontian Barbara Baeta was the first regional representative from 1970 to 1972 and is a chartered club member.
- Her Ladyship Justice Getrude Torkornoo is the Chief Justice of Ghana.
- Dr. Cynthia Opoku-Akoto is the CEO and owner of Accra Medical Center.
- Abena Osei-Poku is the managing director of Ecobank.
- Jeanine Hage-Ali is the CEO of Fay International.
The club felt that it was important to celebrate the achievements and resilience of these esteemed women. The potted yellow rose symbolizes friendship, joy and empowerment. The club hopes that the gesture will serve as a reminder of the vital role everyone plays in advancing the rights and empowerment of women in society.
